Guest speaker Alan Simpson, climate and renewable energy campaigner, a former resident of West Bridgford and ‘recovering politician’ will be giving a short talk on ‘Avoiding the apocalypse’ at the Poppy and Pint at 7:45 pm on Monday 20th February.
There will be the chance to meet members of the West Bridgford XR (Extinction Rebellion) group and find out what they are doing to take action on climate change.
Members are often to be seen on a Saturday morning on Central Avenue, talking to local residents and listening to their concerns about the climate.
There will also be information about ‘The Big One’ in London starting on Friday 21st April. This will be a massive action aiming for 100,000 people, from XR as well as other groups, gathering outside the Houses of Parliament.
Local member, Mary, said:
“Since joining the West Bridgford XR group I have felt less helpless and more well-informed about climate change.
“I have really enjoyed talking to people in the community and have been surprised by how many are concerned about the same issues but are not sure how they can make a difference.
“There is no pressure to do anything I don’t want to do and the group is very friendly. “
XR state that they are not aligned with any political party and welcome people who vote for all political parties and none.
