Co-op Funeralcare in West Bridgford sponsored walk raises £1,800

The team surpassed their donation target of £500.

Co-op Funeralcare in West Bridgford embarked on a 45km sponsored walk on Wednesday 18 August 2021 to raise awareness for mental health charity MIND.

Funeral Director James Smith and Funeral Arrangers Rebecca Finch and Kerry Salmon organised the sponsored walk and were joined by their Co-op Funeralcare colleagues, friends and family at various points throughout the day.

Setting off at 6am, the team walked the distance between all three crematoriums in Nottingham, starting at Gedling Crematorium and then making their way to Bramcote Crematorium followed by Wilford Hill Crematorium, before finishing at 5pm at Gelding where it all began.

The team surpassed their donation target of £500, raising over £1,800 for Mind to help with the important work they do for those experiencing mental health problems.

Leading the team, James wore full ceremonial attire for the duration of the walk, which took over nine hours to complete. Local residents showed their support for James, in his unmissable top hat, and the team by either honking their horns or dropping donations into the Mind buckets.

James Smith, Co-op Funeral Director said: “As a team, we were truly overwhelmed with the amount of support we received from friends, family, colleagues and local residents. Everyone’s generosity made the long, tiring day well worth it and we were absolutely thrilled to surpass our donation target.

“We are planning for this to be an annual event and hope that next year it will be even bigger and better.”
