Community Harmony in Action: Lady Bay’s January Jamboree sells out premiere performance

The two groups, the Lady Bay Music Ensemble and LB Jazz|Funk|Soul, were established last year following callouts on social media.

The inaugural Lady Bay January Jamboree took place at the Poppy and Pint in West Bridgford on Sunday 19 January to a sold-out audience, with two new community-based music groups performing a wide range of music to an enthusiastic crowd.

Musical Director Richard Coffey-Glover explained: “Tickets made available to family and friends of the groups sold out so quickly that we weren’t able to advertise publicly! We’re exploring larger venues for future events to ensure more people can enjoy the music.”

The two groups, the Lady Bay Music Ensemble and LB Jazz|Funk|Soul, were established last year following callouts on social media for interested participants. Both have progressed remarkably in this short time, as evidenced by Sunday’s overwhelmingly positive reception.

These groups welcome everyone—whether rekindling a lapsed connection with an instrument, seeking collaborative opportunities as experienced players, or developing newly acquired skills as beginners.

Numerous studies highlight the significant benefits of communal music-making for personal and social well-being, and participants have echoed these positive effects.

For Richard, the ensembles are part of a broader vision to expand music-making locally, particularly ensuring young people engage with live performance. He aims to cultivate a thriving musical community in Lady Bay, tapping into its latent potential by reigniting passions or nurturing new interests.

Richard oversees these groups and a guitar ensemble, hosting regular sessions in Lady Bay.
