Ellerslie Cricket Club in West Bridgford says it owes a huge debt of gratitude to its neighbouring households.
The club needed to raise £2,040 for new fencing at its ground on Little Bounds and, thanks to support from Councillor Gordon Wheeler, it was awarded a community support grant of £400 from Rushcliffe Borough Council.
Generous private donations were also received from club members and well-wishers, but finding the balance was a challenge.
However, following a successful letter-drop appeal to neighbouring households, the club received donations amounting to half its target, so the new fencing became fully-funded and was installed by Linear Developments (Nottingham) Ltd on 5th July 2021.
Committee member Bob Garland, who led the fundraising effort said: “We’re hugely grateful to the Borough Council and to the neighbouring households who supported our appeal and, indeed, to everyone who donated and made this project possible.
“The new fencing was needed for security and aesthetic reasons, and is part of a continuous improvement programme at the club. To have this level of support for the club is inspiring.”
