The chair of the 1922 Committee Graham Brady announced the vote a few minutes ago.
Sir Graham Brady, Chairman of the 1922 Committee says that the threshold of 54 letters received by the committee from Conservative MPs has been exceeded.
He said that some MPs held back or ‘post dated’ letters so that they didn’t trigger the process until after the Platinum Jubilee celebrations this weekend.
He added that he informed the Prime Minister yesterday, who agreed that the vote should take place as soon as is practicably possible as the rules state.
The statement reads:
‘The threshold of 15% of the parliamentary party seeking a vote of confidence in the leader of the Conservative party has been exceeded.
‘In accordance with the rules, a ballot will be held between 6pm and 8pm today Monday 6 June – details to be confirmed.
‘The votes will be counted immediately afterwards.
‘An announcement will be made at a time to be advised.
‘Arrangements for the announcement will be released later today.’
