Controlled explosion at country park after World War II grenade found in Nottingham

The suspected World War II device was destroyed by bomb disposal teams.

The incident happened after the grenade was found near Arno Vale Road in Woodthorpe at 7:25 pm on 24 April.

The device was detonated at Gedling Country Park.

Nottinghamshire Police said:

“The grenade, which appeared to be from the Second World War era, was found in Arno Vale Road, Woodthorpe.

“Police cordons were temporarily put in place on the road, while joint services explosive ordnance disposal engineers safely removed the object.

“Bomb disposal experts then carried out a successful controlled explosion soon afterwards. No evacuations were necessary due to the rural location.”
