Coronavirus: Over 1500 students and staff test positive at University of Nottingham

More than 1,500 students and staff test positive for coronavirus at the University of Nottingham.

The figures released today show:

Students in University halls tested positive – 523

Students in purpose-built student accommodation – 310

Students in private accommodation – 677

Staff members – 20

The University said:

‘Figures show the number of active cases of COVID-19 for staff and students who are still in the self-isolation period following a positive result of an NHS test. We aim to update these data each week.

‘Alongside the national ‘Pillar 2’ testing regime for people with symptoms of COVID-19, the University has also commenced its own asymptomatic testing programme which will identify cases earlier and more quickly.

‘While this will mean that our case data will be higher than other universities, we can identify cases that otherwise would remain undetected and thereby reduce asymptomatic transmission and the number of future cases.

‘From a total student population of 35,000 and staff population of 10,000, the number of active cases of COVID-19 are as follows.’
