For this year’s royal celebrations, the crown has been retro-fitted with LED lighting effects, as Nottingham Council House joins the UK-wide “Lighting Up The Nation” that will see the country join together and illuminate iconic locations across the UK.
The Council House and crown will be lit up at dusk each evening from Wednesday 26 April and over the Coronation weekend.
The Coronation and Coronation Concert will be shown live on a giant screen in the grounds of Nottingham Castle – the first chance to visit the site since it closed last year. On Saturday 6 May, the Coronation will be broadcast live from Westminster Abbey in London, however this screening event is now fully booked.
On Sunday 7 May, the Coronation Concert will be screened live from Windsor. Performers confirmed so far include Take That, Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, Andrea Bocelli, Sir Bryn Terfel, Freya Ridings and Alexis Ffrench, with more to be announced. The concert will be hosted by renowned actor Hugh Bonneville.
The screenings have been made possible thanks to funding made available by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
