Councillors demand these Nottinghamshire roads are fully resurfaced

A councillor who monitors potholes every day voices frustration at the state of roads.

A Hucknall Ashfield Independent Councillor has spoken of his frustration that Nottinghamshire County Council ‘are refusing to resurface Beardall Street and others in Hucknall for at least 3 years.’

He says that he has been reporting this and other streets like Derbyshire Lane in Hucknall ‘fortnightly for months’.  He claims he had been told verbally by council bosses that they ‘Won’t consider a full resurface job on the roads until 2027.”

Councillor Waters, who campaigns daily to fix Hucknall’s broken roads and pavements said,

“Since being elected to County Hall in 2021, I have reported more roads and pavements to be fixed than ever before.

“My neighbours on Beardall Street have been bitterly complaining however and I agree with them.

“This is just one of the roads I am campaigning to get resurfaced across Hucknall but by far the worst.

“I have written to Tory Council bosses every few weeks for months and they have told me it won’t get a full re-surfacing job for three years.

“I am told the road is beyond patchwork and does need to be resurfaced but that won’t be for years.  The road, like many others across Hucknall is dangerous and needs sorting.  Others across Hucknall, like Derbyshire Lane have been repeatedly reported but Nottinghamshire County Council are doing nothing.”

Councillor Waters has taken his tape measure out and reported road defects of over 4 feet long.

Councillor John Wilmott, also a Hucknall Councillor said:

“After a two-hour walk around Hucknall town centre and the surrounding areas with officers from Nottinghamshire County Council.

“We were appalled with the state of our broken roads and pavements.

“Council officers were visibly shocked.

“There are serious road issues on Papplewick Lane, Yorke Street, South Street, and Portland Road, Hucknall amongst others.   On Derbyshire Lane and Beardall Street, the roads are totally unsafe and it’s clear that residents cannot wait 1 week, never mind 3 years to get these roads resurfaced.”

Nottinghamshire County Council highways has been contacted for comment.
