Officers were called to reports that a couple had been found unconscious following a suspected gas leak at a house in Ilkeston.
Police were called at 10:10 am on Friday 20 February.
A spokesperson said:
‘At the scene a married couple, a man, 89, and a woman, 90, were found but were pronounced dead by the ambulance service.
‘Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service made the area safe, and after the property was ventilated, officers were able to carry out an initial review of the circumstances in which the couple died.
‘A file is being prepared for the coroner and further enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances of the gas leak.’
