Covid: Notts staff and volunteers thanked by health bosses for delivering more than 1.2m vaccines

Health leaders have thanked staff, volunteers and the public as more than 1.2 million vaccines have been delivered across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

Across the region a number of sites have been open seven days a week for the last eight months working to vaccinate as many members of the public as possible.

Latest figures show that more than 84 per cent of the population have had one dose and 67 per cent have now had two doses of the life-saving vaccine. In recent weeks, the focus has moved to finalising second doses and increasing uptake among 18-30 year olds.

As the programme now moves into its next stage, detailed planning work is underway to deliver the immunisation programme for Winter and protect as many people as possible with Covid-19 booster jabs as well as flu jabs.

The immunisation programme will review the locations of each site to decide on the most efficient and effective way to vaccinate people across the city and county going forward. The plan will see a gradual move away from the current large vaccination sites to more community and primary care based delivery – smaller sites but many more of them, and in the heart of local communities.

Over the next six weeks the new delivery model will be established and the current large sites, with the exception of Nottingham and Mansfield area site, will be stood down by the Autumn. We anticipate that this new model will see an increase from the current twenty sites to a provision in excess of 40 vaccination sites.

Amanda Sullivan said: “I’d like to say a big thank you to all the staff and volunteers who have spent the last eight months working tirelessly to ensure as many people as possible are protected against the virus. The tireless work and support has resulted in the vast majority of our communities receiving the vaccine and being protected from the virus.

“We will now be working closely with GPs and pharmacies to review how we deliver the next stage of the programme. Our drive to get as many people as possible vaccinated still very much continues, and I’d strongly urge anyone who hasn’t had their first dose yet to please come forward, it is not too late.”

All vaccination sites across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire are currently offering walk-in appointments for first and second doses. Second doses will be available for those who had their first dose 56 days (8 weeks) ago. The public can see the latest site opening times on the website or alternatively can book an appointment online or by calling 119.
