The Prime Minister Boris Johnson outlines new coronavirus lockdown regulations which begin at midnight tonight.
The Prime Minister said:
‘New variant of Covid-19 between 50% and 70% more transmissible, there has been an increase of a third of patients in hospital. That number os 40% higher than the ‘first peak”.
‘It’s clear that we need to do more together – there will be a national lockdown to tackle this.
Legal powers will enforce the lockdown, rules become law in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
From midnight you can only leave home to shop for essentials, work, if you absolutely cannot work from home, medicines and exercise.’
‘Schools must close tomorrow and go to remote learning ( except for the children of key workers who can still attend )’
‘Free school meals will continue.’
‘Exams won’t go ahead this summer as planned ‘ ( not clarified what this means yet )
‘Stay at home, except for specific reasons, including essential shopping, to work, if you cannot work from home, to exercise, to seek medical help, to escape domestic abuse.
‘The government will be advising clinical extremely people to begin shielding again.
‘Primary and secondary schools must move to remote learning from tomorrow, except for vulnerable children and those of key workers.’
