The Prime Minister, Boris Johnson willl announce tougher measures at 8 pm in a television address.
Today First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon has announced that all schools in Scotland will remain closed until February, except key workers children, and a ‘stay at home’ rule, in law, will apply from midnight tonight.
It’s not known whether the prime minister will lockdown England, or apply Tier 4 over a wider area.
A No 10 spokesman said according to the BBC: “The spread of the new variant of COVID-19 has led to rapidly escalating case numbers across the country.
“The prime minister is clear that further steps must now be taken to arrest this rise and to protect the NHS and save lives.
