Covid: Rolling 10-day cases at University of Nottingham more than double in 24 hours

Cases of coronavirus over the last ten days at the university have doubled in a day according to figures presented by the University of Nottingham.

The university does have asymptomatic testing in place, however figures released today show that cases of the virus over ten days on 13 December were 166 in total from 4 – 13 December, and on the 14 December had risen to 352 cases recorded from 5 -14 December. The increase was measured in one day.

The figures show the number of active cases of Covid-19 for staff and students who are living or working in Nottingham and still in the self-isolation period following a positive test result.

There are 290 cases among students and 62 cases among staff.

Of the students who tested positive 82 live in halls or other University accommodation but 98 live in private rented homes around Nottingham.

The university notes:

‘Alongside the national ‘Pillar 2’ testing regime for people with symptoms of Covid-19, the University has its own asymptomatic testing programme. The programme has now been recommended for national accreditation, meaning that any positive cases can begin their isolation period from the day they took the University test, and results are linked to NHS Track and Trace. It will mean our case data may be higher than other universities.’
