CrossCountry has advised passengers that there will be significant disruption to travel on some routes on Friday 4 November and to avoid travelling unless absolutely essential on 5, 7 and 9 November following the announcement of planned strike action by Transport Salaried Staff Association (TSSA) and The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT).
As a result, CrossCountry will operate a limited service across the network with some areas having no service at all on the 4, 5, 7 and 9 November.
Passengers are advised to check before they travel and only make essential journeys as disruption is anticipated to be high. On days following the strike action, CrossCountry services will start later, with service returning to normal later in the day.
If travelling on these days, passengers are urged to check the CrossCountry website before they travel.
Services affected on Friday 4 November:
- No services between Stansted and Leicester
- A limited bus replacement service will run between Leicester and Peterborough / Burton on Trent to Derby via Willington / Wilnecote to Tamworth
- One train per hour will operate between Leicester and Birmingham
- No services between Birmingham and Cardiff and Nottingham and Derby
- All other services will run as normal
On 5 November, CrossCountry will run one train per hour between 0730 and 1830 on the following routes:
- Leicester to Birmingham
- Reading to Birmingham (extended from/to Southampton every other hour)
- Birmingham to Manchester
- Birmingham to York
- All other routes are closed
On 5 November, CrossCountry will run one train per hour between 0730 and 1830 on the following routes:
- Leicester to Birmingham
- Reading to Birmingham (extended from/to Southampton every other hour)
- Birmingham to Manchester
- Birmingham to York
- All other routes are closed
On 7 and 9 November, CrossCountry will run one train per hour between 0730 and 1830 on the following routes:
- Leicester to Birmingham
- Reading to Birmingham (extended from/to Southampton every other hour)
- Birmingham to Manchester
- Birmingham to York
- Four trains each way per day between York and Edinburgh
- All other routes are closed
Mark Goodall , Service Delivery Director at CrossCountry said: “Once again we are sorry for the obvious disruption that this action will cause.
“Throughout the industrial action, we are working to ensure disruption is kept to minimum levels. However with industrial action affecting the whole of the rail network, we are unable to operate a full service even with the support of colleagues at Network Rail and other train operators.
“We strongly advise passengers to check their journeys in advance, as many routes across the UK rail network will be affected. We urge passengers to only travel if absolutely necessary.”
