Dangerous driver who caused man to lose leg jailed

A motorist has been jailed for four years after his dangerous driving caused another man to lose his leg.

Callum Knott also broke both a mother’s ankle and her daughter’s coccyx after colliding with three separate cars.

The 41-year-old drove down Valley Road, Sherwood, and struck the woman’s car – which had three child passengers on board.

She was then forced into the opposing carriageway and collided head-on with another car in the opposite lane on 28 September 2025.

The female driver suffered a broken ankle, a dislocated knee, and numerous other injuries. Her daughter also suffered a broken coccyx.

Other children in the car were left with minor injuries.

Meanwhile, the opposing driver – a 65-year-old man – was left with injuries so severe that he had to have his right leg amputated and remains in hospital to this day.

He also suffered a multitude of other severe injuries – including a broken shoulder, femur, and ribs.

The court heard that the female victim still suffers from stress and has nightmares.

An impact statement read out by the male victim’s partner said: “This month we should have been celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. Instead, we are in a dark place.”

The offender also caused further collisions during his bout of dangerous driving.

As he first pulled onto Valley Road, he swerved into a van and knocked the back of it.

He later travelled to Arnold Road and collided with a stationary car.

Luckily, neither of the occupants of those vehicles suffered any injuries.

Throughout the ordeal, Knott failed to stop and continued on his journey without checking what or who he had hit.

Knott, of Saint Matthias Road, St Ann’s, went on to plead guilty to three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop after a road accident, and failing to report that accident.

In an incident earlier that day, Knott also attended a property and slashed car tyres. He further pleaded guilty to criminal damage and possession of a bladed article.

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday (13 January), he was jailed for a total of four years.

A driving ban was also imposed on him for seven years.

Detective Inspector Jamie Moore of Nottinghamshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said:

“Knott decided to drive in a manner that placed other road users in serious danger with catastrophic consequences, leaving one victim still in hospital.

“This case should serve as a warning to others about the potential results of such careless behaviour on the roads, and that it will never be tolerated by the force.

“Whilst this sentencing will not change the fact that Knott’s careless actions have caused a victim to suffer life-changing injuries alongside serious ones, I hope it can provide some peace to them and their families to know he is behind bars.”
