Traffic has now been released but delays remain.
A collision between two lorries caused the closure at around 8:15 am today.
National Highways said at 8:54 am 14 January:
‘Recovery complete and traffic has been released in both directions on the M1 between J22 Leicester and J23 Loughborough.
‘All lanes are now open both ways. There are long residual delays on the northbound carriageway of at least 45 minutes above usual journey times.’
