Demolition has started on part of the building formerly occupied by Castle Beauty and The Black Pearl in Bridgford Road West Bridgford.
Work was started on a development in West Bridgford to transform part of a period building into apartments.
The Black Pearl’s Victorian frontage remains in the plans – but the building attached to it, which has various extensions which have been added over the years, needs to come down to make way for seven new-build apartments.
The plans state that on the first floor and above, there would be a total of seven apartments consisting of a mix of one-bed and two-bed units. The Rushcliffe Residential Design Guide identifies that higher urban densities are considered appropriate within the central West Bridgford area, of which this would fall.
The plans are described as, a high-quality development reflective of other recently approved developments in West Bridgford such as Christonian Court (on the opposite side of Bridgford Road) and the former ambulance station on Rectory Road where 30 new apartments have been completed.
The plans propose a mixed use scheme of commercial ground floor units with residential use above.
