Detective Sergeant Charlotte Henson of Nottinghamshire Police comments after a man threatened to blow up his kitchen and another said he had a gun in two separate incidents.
Detective Sergeant Charlotte Henson said the incidents were unconnected, spontaneous incidents that were dealt with expertly by officers and resolved safely.
“Without the response officers’ bravery and training they could have been a lot more serious,” she said.
“We are really pleased that both incidents were resolved and importantly without anyone coming to harm.
“The incidents must have been hugely upsetting for local residents, especially those who were in the process of being evacuated and I’d like to thank them for their patience and understanding.
“The incident involving a gun thankfully was a BB gun and was immediately thrown on the ground when officers arrived, which quickly de-escalated the risk.
“We recognise that the community in Stapleford may be concerned about the incidents, but we would like to reassure them that they are unconnected and whilst we can never predict spontaneous incidents like these, we have the skills and resources to safely and effectively deal with them.
“With every incident we attend the safety of our residents is our top priority.”
