A confirmed case of canine parvovirus has been reported in the Bakersfield area of Nottingham, with an adult dog sadly dying after contracting the virus.
Nottingham Netherfield Vets for Pets said the dog was local to Bakersfield and had been walked in the area while showing symptoms, including around Oakdale Road, Parkdale Road and nearby side streets.
The practice urged dog owners to remain vigilant for symptoms, particularly in unvaccinated animals, and to contact a vet immediately if they have concerns.
Symptoms of parvovirus can include vomiting, diarrhoea (often with blood), loss of appetite and lethargy.
The dog did not enter the veterinary practice and was treated in a vehicle outside the premises. The practice said it has disinfected its external areas as a precaution.
Owners who are unsure about their dog’s vaccination status are advised to contact their vet.
