Donna Ockenden reacts to payments of £100 million from NUH for obstetrics failures

Ms Ockenden is running the independent review into Nottingham University Hospitals maternity services.

This report shows that figures have revealed that NUH paid out £100 million in obstetrics claims since 2006, plus £16 million in legal costs.

Many of the claims took years to get resolved for the families and victims involved.

Ms Ockenden said:

‘…mothers who thought that they would go on and have a successful career outside the home have told me I had to give up work.

‘Some relationships don’t make it through that extra pressure.

‘I’ve met some families who come and see me separately. The sadness is just immense.’
