Drink-driver charged after leaving road and crashing into hedge

A suspected drink-driver is due in court after a car was spotted in a grass verge.

Officers arrived at Muttonshire Hill, Retford just after 7 pm on Tuesday 2 December, following concerns raised by a member of the public.

A grey Renault Clio had reportedly been driven off the side of the road into a hedge – no one was injured.

Once they arrived at the scene, police located a suspect and arrested him on suspicion of drink-driving.

A breath test recorded 85 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes of breath in 100 millilitres of breath.

Dean Carver, of Southgate Road, London, has been charged with driving while over the limit and possession of the Class B drug cannabis.

The 32-year-old was bailed and is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 19 December.

PC Carl Forman, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“As a force, we take all reports of drink-driving very seriously as we understand the impact this type of offending can have on people’s lives.

“Needless to say, no drink is worth the potential life-changing consequences of getting behind the wheel when over the limit.

“Any individuals who make this decision can expect to be put before the courts.”
