Driver arrested after car crashes into a wall

Police have arrested a suspect on suspicion of dangerous driving after a car crashed into a wall.

Officers from the road crime team were on patrol in the Newark area at around 9.15pm on Tuesday (14 June) when they spotted a speeding car.

The driver is understood to have then ignored requests to pull over and instead continued to drive erratically and over the speed limit along Grange Road.

A short pursuit then took place around Newark, with the driver colliding with three cars before crashing into a garden wall outside a house in London Road.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

He was taken to hospital as a precaution after sustaining minor injuries from the incident and remains in police custody.

Detective Sergeant Rob Palethorpe, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “The driver’s actions that night were incredibly dangerous and could’ve quite easily resulted in devastating consequences.

“They can count themselves extremely lucky that this incident didn’t lead to anyone being seriously injured.

“The speed limit exists for a reason and there’s no excuse for motorists to ever put other people’s safety in danger by driving erratically or dangerously on our roads.

“Thanks to the actions of our officers, we have arrested a suspect in connection with this offence, but this is still an ongoing investigation, and our officers are continuing to carry out enquiries.

“We would now urge anyone who witnessed this incident, or has dash-cam footage, to please get in touch with Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident 767 of 14 June 2022.

“Alternatively, people can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
