A driver was hit several times to the head after he refused to give two men a lift home.
The 34-year-old had just returned to his car when two men got in the back and asked to be taken to a nearby housing development.
The driver didn’t know who the men were and so refused.
A 23-year-old Dylan Ball – got out of the car and opened the driver’s door.
He then assaulted the driver by hitting him repeatedly in the head.
The driver managed to escape with blood pouring from his face.
He was taken to Queens Medical Centre and treated for cuts, scratches and bruises.
He required stitches for a deep cut to his chin.
Nottingham Crown Court heard the attack happened in Bridgford Road, West Bridgford, at 10.45pm on 19 December 2019, when Ball was aged 21.
The driver had parked outside a Co-Op store and whilst inside the shop he saw his passenger talking to two men.
When he returned to his car, he and his passenger got in the front of the vehicle and the two other men got in the back, much to the driver’s surprise.
He was attacked by Ball after refusing to give him and the other man a lift home.
Ball, of Trent Boulevard, West Bridgford, was arrested and charged after the driver picked him out in an identification parade as the man who attacked him.
At court, Ball pleaded guilty to affray and was sentenced on Monday, 20 September to nine months in prison, suspended for a year.
Following the sentencing, Sergeant Ryan Atkin said: “Ball’s actions on that night were utterly inexcusable.
“Luckily the victim was not seriously injured but this was a frightening ordeal that I sure will live with him for some time to come.
“Nottinghamshire Police treats violence with the utmost seriousness and – as in this case – will devote whatever resources are necessary into tracking down and convicting people who commit such offences.”
