Emergency services were called to Coppice Road at 6.10pm on Friday 14 December 2018 following a collision involving two cars.
Since then it has been established that the driver of one of the vehicles was assaulted in his car a short time before the collision took place.
The victim, a man in his 40s, had suffered a stab wound to his leg. He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
An investigation is now underway and detectives are treating the incident as isolated. Further to this there does not appear to be any connection to any other incident reported to the police.
Nottinghamshire Police believe the victim and suspect to be known to one another and as such are satisfied that there is no risk to the wider public.
A significant number of enquiries are taking place throughout the course of today (Saturday 15 December 2018) including the recovery of CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses. Therefore the community will see an increase in police patrols and vehicles in the area.
Notts Police are appealing to anyone in the area who saw what happened or who has any other information, including drivers who may have dashcam footage, to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 742 of 14 December 2018, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
