The new £7.9m free school in Chapel Lane, Bingham, continues to take shape with the main structure now complete.
The school, which will be sponsored by the Community Inclusive Trust (C.I.T), will offer 210 places to local pupils and 26 nursery places and will largely serve the new housing development at Romans’ Quarter in the town.
The one-storey 1,405 sq. ft school will feature seven classrooms, a multi-use games area, playground and a new hall, which doubles up as a dining and indoor sports hall.
The building will be highly self-efficient with air source heat pumps, high-efficiency lighting and two electric vehicle charging stations.
The school has been designed by Arc Partnership – a joint venture between Nottinghamshire County Council and SCAPE – which is also overseeing the construction through its delivery partner Morgan Sindall Construction.
Councillor Sam Smith, vice chairman of the Children Young People’s Committee, who attended a recent ‘topping out’ event to mark this latest milestone said:
“This new Bingham School will provide a wonderful environmentally-friendly learning environment in a modern designed building. We are very proud it will be one of the county’s first carbon neutral schools.
“This school, which will see its first intake in September 2022, has been built with expansion in mind, so as the number of houses in the area increase, the school can accommodate the extra pupil numbers and we’ll be working closely with Arc Partnership in the future.
“I am pleased Bingham Primary School has a designated drop off and pick up zone, which will help alleviate local traffic congestion and provide safe access to the school. It also has a number of additional features worth celebrating including heat pumps, bird and bat boxes throughout the grounds and the sports field has been designed in line with Sport England specifications.”
Newly-appointed headteacher, Gayle Ellis, added:
“It’s wonderful to see the building taking shape. It is going to be a fantastic facility. I am particularly looking forward to seeing it full of children learning and enjoying school.”
With the structure of the school now complete, the next stage will be completion of the roof, with internal partitions and walls set to follow, as well as the installation of flooring and mechanical features such as sprinklers.
