Operational Support officers seized drugs and a machete after catching up with a bike rider.
The electric bike drew the attention of the police after they saw it being ridden on the pavement in Tunstall Drive, Basford.
Suspecting it could be involved in criminality, officers started to trail the bike – at which point the rider performed a U-turn and sped off.
With police in pursuit – around 10.45am on Saturday (26 July) – the person controlling the e-bike reached 50 mph in a 30mph zone in Petworth Drive.
The rider was then seen to narrowly miss an oncoming car, before continuing to speed away and eventually fall off the bike, near Heathfield Road.
A suspect in a balaclava was located and detained in a nearby garden soon afterwards by officers, who then proceeded to conduct a search.
Police went on to recover a sheathed machete, wraps of suspected heroin, crack cocaine and cannabis, as well as quantities of cash.
A 16-year-old boy was subsequently arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, possessing a bladed article in public, and possessing with intent to supply Class A drugs.
He was also arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, possessing cannabis, and driving without a licence or valid insurance.
Sergeant Lee Frith, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“This proved itself to be a significant seizure by the team, after they initially spotted a bike rider who aroused their suspicions.
“Believing the e-bike could have some links to criminality, they went after it, with a pursuit taking place featuring driving that fell below the standards acceptable on the roads.
“That decision to act on those suspicions ultimately resulted in them seizing a machete and deals of drugs, while making an arrest too, so this was a pleasing result.”
