Wind Mobility Ltd (Wind UK) has today announced an upgrade of its e-scooter fleet in Nottingham and Derby.
The upgrade comes as part of a new package of measures to boost safety.
Wind UK will replace its current model with the industry-leading LINK e-scooter from Superpedestrian.
The neon yellow and grey LINK e-scooters will be rolled out this week, and the existing scooters collected.
Wind UK users in Nottingham will need to download the LINK app that accompanies the LINK e-scooters to continue using the service.
The Wind app will no longer be available for use and users will have to download the LINK app to continue using the service.
Any existing app wallet balances will be automatically refunded.
The minimum age to rent e-scooters in Nottingham and Derby has been raised to 18 years old, to bring the scheme in Nottingham and Derby into line with other major UK cities, including London.
Wind UK, which has joined the Superpedestrian family, will continue to operate the trial scheme on behalf of Nottingham and Derby City Councils. The deployment of LINK e-scooters is part of a £3m investment by Superpedestrian designed to help Wind address the most common complaints seen in the e-scooter trial so far, including pavement riding, incorrect parking, damaged scooters and safety concerns for people with visual impairments.
Industry-leading e-scooter comes to Nottingham and Derby
The LINK e-scooter has many safety features that will contribute to the success of the e-scooter trial in Nottingham and Derby.
The footboard is 20% wider and 9% longer than industry convention to make for a more stable ride.
The chassis has been specifically designed to protect the battery from weather and vandals; solid tyres stand up to frequent use without damage; and the suspension has been tested to withstand at least one million bumps.
An integrated bicycle-style bell helps alert others to the scooter’s presence, and a triple-braking system helps riders safely stop in all weathers.
