East Bridgford church offers cool space during heatwave

A church in East Bridgford is offering residents a cool place to sit during the hot weather.

St Peter’s Church, in East Bridgford, says its building is being made available to people in the village who may need somewhere cooler during the heatwave.

The offer is aimed particularly at anyone who may be vulnerable in high temperatures, or people who know someone who could benefit from spending some time in a cooler indoor space.

A spokesperson for the church said people are welcome to come in and sit for an hour or two.

The church has wheelchair access into the main building, as well as a toilet, although the toilet does not have wheelchair access. Water is also available in the kitchen for anyone who needs to stay hydrated.

Visitors are asked to close the door behind them to help keep the cool air inside the church.

The church said: “Are you looking for a cool space in the heatwave? Do you know a vulnerable person who might need to sit in a cool place for a while? Here at St Peter’s East Bridgford we are offering our cool church to the villages — come and sit for an hour or two.”

Anyone visiting is asked to help themselves to water if needed.
