East Leake fire crews deal with tree struck by lightning

The incident was reported on Rempstone Road in East Leake.

Crews at East Leake Fire Station said on Monday 12 June:

‘East Leake has just responded to a tree struck by lightning on Rempstone Rd.

‘Please be aware that due to multiple strikes in our area. Grass and undergrowth may be smouldering.’

Thunderstorm warnings have been in place across Nottinghamshire today, with storms and heavy rain arriving from around 4 pm until 7 pm.

The Yellow warning which includes Nottinghamshire is in place until 9 pm on Monday 12 June.

The warning states: Thunderstorms and torrential downpours are expected to break out across central England and Wales during Monday. These will be slow moving and intense leading to some large accumulations with in excess of 30 mm in an hour for some locations and the potential for 60-80 mm or more in a few hours where thunderstorms align for a time. Frequent lightning and hail are likely to be additional hazards.
