East Midlands Railway (EMR) has announced plans to increase its Intercity timetable from Monday, 19 October, taking a further significant step towards restoring its full planned service.
Following the introduction of a temporary reduced timetable in July, EMR increased its Intercity operation from 87% to 92% of the full planned timetable from Tuesday, 1 September. This increase was supported by improved operational stability across EMR’s Intercity fleet.
Since the introduction of the 92% timetable, EMR has continued to work closely with Hitachi Rail, the Department for Transport (DfT), DfTO and other industry partners to improve fleet reliability and ensure the resilience needed to operate additional services safely and consistently.
This continued improvement has given EMR greater confidence to increase its Intercity operation from 92% to 96% of the full planned timetable from Monday, 19 October.
The revised timetable will reinstate a number of services previously withdrawn, providing customers travelling between Sheffield, Nottingham and London St Pancras with greater choice and flexibility.
Sheffield services
Customers travelling to and from Sheffield will benefit from:
- More weekday services being restored, including the reinstatement of the 09:00 Sheffield to London service.
- More weekend choice, with services reinstated on both Saturdays and Sundays in both directions.
- The return of earlier and later journey options, providing greater flexibility for customers travelling to and from London.
Nottingham services
Customers travelling to and from Nottingham will benefit from:
- Multiple weekday services being reinstated, including the 13:50 and 18:10 Nottingham to London services.
- The return of a number of London to Nottingham services, including 11:35, 16:05 and 20:35.
- More weekend services restored, including additional Saturday services in both directions.

The restoration of these additional services, including more weekday and weekend options for Sheffield and Nottingham, will provide greater choice and flexibility for those travelling to and from London.
“While this is a positive step forward, we recognise that there is still more work to do. We remain focused on working closely with Hitachi Rail, the Department for Transport and our other industry partners to address the remaining fleet challenges and restore the full timetable as soon as we can.

Customers planning to travel on or after Monday, 19 October are advised to check their journey details in advance using national journey planners, the EMR website or the EMR app.
