Exciting plans for a potential new community facility building in Edwalton are being explored to support environmental projects which have already been proposed as part of the community parkland area at the Sharphill development.
Reserved matters applications for the next phases of the development were submitted to Rushcliffe Borough Council by Vistry last year and are currently being considered.
The application for the community parkland comprises allotments, car parking facilities, wildflower meadows, community orchard, wildlife corridor, and now potentially a community hall, subject to funding and approvals.
The proposals will form part of a new community focal point for the area and provide connections to the community parks and woods providing a space to support environmental projects, community groups and volunteers.
It could also complement existing infrastructure including the newly opened Rosecliffe Spencer Academy Primary School.
Leader of Rushcliffe Borough Council and ward councillor for Edwalton Cllr Simon Robinson said: “I am very pleased further options are now being assessed for the site as part of this reserved matters application.
“We have been working with developers for many years to deliver a new centre and community infrastructure as part of any plans given the scale of these new local communities.
“Now there are some possible significant environmental projects around the centre that could help make it an integral part of these neighbourhoods and that chime well with our sustainable growth priority as an authority.
“Any plans the Council receive will of course be subject to an independent planning process.”
