Edwalton: Images released after mobile phone stolen in distraction theft

Police are seeking the public’s help to trace two men after a mobile phone was stolen while a woman was distracted.

She was sitting outside the McDonalds, at Zambra Court, Edwalton, when she was approached by two men who distracted her while they were asking for directions.

One of the suspects put a piece of paper over the phone before stealing it.

Police are now in a position to release these CCTV images of two men they want to identify and speak to as part of their inquiries into the incident which happened around 2.30pm on 22 July 2024.

Detective Constable Matt Grant, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Having your phone stolen is an immensely upsetting experience and we are determined to track down those responsible.

“We are keen to speak to the men in the images and I would ask them, or anyone who recognises them, to come forward.

These types of distraction theft offences are also a stark reminder for people to keep their valuables out of sight and be aware when using expensive items in public.

“We don’t want this to happen to anyone else and so are encouraging people to remain vigilant to mitigate the risks of their phone being stolen.

“We’d also urge people to report any suspicious behaviour to us directly on 101, or to venue staff, to ensure we can act upon it.”

Anyone who recognises either of the men pictured is urged to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 408 of 22 July 2024, or alternatively they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
