Elderly man attacked in his own Nottinghamshire home

Detectives investigating an incident where an elderly man was assaulted in his own home have arrested a suspect.

The victim was attacked by a man who entered his address, off Bellamy Road, Mansfield.

He suffered facial and leg injuries during the attack and was taken to hospital for treatment.

His injuries are not currently believed to be life-threatening or life-altering.

His wallet and mobile phone were stolen during the incident which happened at around 6.10am yesterday (Saturday 21 May 2022).

Police swiftly carried out enquiries and following good work involving numerous departments, a 25-year-man was arrested at an address in Mansfield yesterday on suspicion of aggravated burglary. He remains in custody.

Detective Sergeant Lauren Morgan, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a nasty incident in which a man was assaulted in his own home by an intruder.

“Thankfully incidents like this are incredibly rare and enquiries are ongoing. I am pleased that as a result of a lot of hard work and a great team effort, involving several police departments, we managed to quickly locate and arrest a suspect. Our investigation is ongoing.”
