Elderly man dies after car crashed into building in Nottinghamshire

A driver who was involved in a single vehicle collision has died.

Police were called to Portland Street in Newark following the crash at around 12.10pm yesterday (Tuesday 18 May).

A 82-year-old man was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham where he sadly died.

He was travelling out of Asda car park in a Ford Tourneo Connect when the collision happened.

Officers from Nottinghamshire Police’s serious collision unit are working to establish the circumstances that led to the vehicle leaving the road and colliding with the wall of an RSPCA building.

Sergeant Mark Baker, of the serious collision investigation unit, said: “This was a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the victim’s family at what we know is a very difficult time.

“Our investigation is at an early stage and we would like to speak to anybody who may have witnessed what happened – especially anyone with dash-cam footage.”
