Police officers investigating a burglary that was interrupted by the homeowner have now charged a suspect.
An elderly woman was sitting in the living room of her Radford home when an intruder invited himself in through the back door.
The woman immediately spotted and confronted the unknown man, who responded by running straight back out of the house, around 4.20pm on 26 July.
Having initially reported that nothing had been taken when she called 999, she then discovered her handbag containing quantities of cash and her glasses had been stolen.
Following inquiries officers were able to identify and arrest a suspect inside a Nottingham address, in the early hours of Monday (31 August) morning.
Jamie Marriott, of Queens Road North, Eastwood, has since been charged with one count of burglary.
The 33-year-old suspect appeared before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (2 September), where he was then remanded into custody.
He is next due to attend Nottingham Crown Court on 30 September.
Detective Constable Mitchell Thomas, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“We’d firstly like to praise the elderly victim, who showed real bravery during what must’ve been an incredibly alarming situation.
“Having confronted the person inside her home, she then did exactly the right thing by calling 999 to raise the alarm.
“Burglary is an incredibly invasive crime that can cause real lasting harm to those targeted, so it’s pleasing to have now been able to identify and charge a suspect in connection with this offence.”
