Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a woman in her eighties was robbed of the jewellery she was wearing while she was walking her dog in Wollaton on Tuesday afternoon.
Nottinghamshire Police were called on Tuesday (14 July 2020) to a report that a woman, believed to be in her late 40s, had engaged the 83-year-old victim in conversation before taking a ring from her finger and making several unsuccessful attempts to also take her wedding ring.
The theft is believed to have happened at around 2.15pm while the victim was standing with her dog at the junction of Charles Avenue and Derby Road, Wollaton.
After the suspect left the scene, it was discovered that a St Christopher necklace was also missing.
Detective Sergeant Nigel Malik from Nottinghamshire Police, who is leading the investigation, said: “We’re appealing to anyone who may have any information about this incident and can help us identify this woman.
“She is said to be around 5ft 2ins to 5ft 4ins tall with a light-skinned Asian appearance. We believe she is of slim or medium build with long dark hair. At the time, we believe she was also wearing a loose-fitting top and bottoms.
“This was undoubtedly a frightening and upsetting experience for the victim in this sad case to have been robbed of jewellery which she clearly loved.
“We want to reassure people that such reports will be taken seriously and investigated thoroughly and I am urging anyone with any further information to get in touch.”
