Emergency services called after man barricades himself in Nottingham flat

Police negotiators helped bring about a safe arrest following an incident where man had barricaded himself in a flat.

Officers had become concerned for the man’s safety after being called to the property in Sneinton Road in Sneinton just before 3pm yesterday (Tuesday 22 February 2022).

Police along with fire and ambulance service colleagues were called to the scene. The road was closed while the incident was dealt with and some residents were also evacuated as a precaution.

Specially trained police negotiators were called in and after around three hours of careful discussion entry was gained into the flat and a man was safely detained and assessed by paramedics.

Extensive damage was caused inside the property including broken furniture, a sink which had been ripped from the wall and a smashed window pane.

A 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage.

Detective Inspector Marcus Oldroyd, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Thanks to the efforts of officers on the scene, including trained negotiators, the incident was brought to a safe conclusion and a man was taken into police custody.

“I’d like to thank residents and members of the public for their patience and understanding while we carried out our work to resolve the incident.”
