There are just two weeks for aspiring Notts entrepreneurs to join a ‘dragons-den’ style pitching competition – where they could win a £30,000 bundle of cash, desk space and expert mentoring to help set up or ‘scale up’ their business.
Accelerate Places, the unique co-working office space in Nottingham which is home to a growing number of technology-based businesses, is to host the competition on 3 October when the city’s aspiring entrepreneurs will pitch to a panel of experts.
Ambitious people from start-up companies, and others from fledgling firms are invited to pitch their new business ideas to an expert panel from Blenheim Chalcot – backers of leading firms such as Clearscore, TDX Group, and Liberis.
The dynamic entrepreneur who impresses the most will get the £5,000 cash prize to help bring their idea to life, along with six months’ free dedicated desk space, a valuable support and mentoring package. The winner will also benefit from a number of free consultations on essential disciplines including finance, legal, events and PR & marketing – as well as the opportunity to work alongside like-minded peers in a collaborative, modern environment.
Lucy Moss, business manager at Accelerate Places said: “Nottingham is bursting with entrepreneurial talent. The city was recently named 3rd Most Entrepreneurial City in the UK, so we know there is a great deal of ambition, dynamism and talent here.
“We can’t wait to see the business ideas presented to us. The enterprise scene in the city is continuing to reach new strengths with the support of organisations such as the Midlands Engine and the Creative Quarter – along with Nottingham’s two world class universities and we really want to be at the heart of supporting it.”
Accelerate Places is based in Wollaton Street in the city and offers a collaborative, high tech environment, superior on site network, support services and access to funding – all geared up to support business growth.
Lucy added: “We have been in the city for just over a year and our experience tells us that entrepreneurs like to work in an environment where they can benefit from the expertise of other businesses doing similar things. Giving entrepreneurs the chance to start out somewhere like Accelerate Places, with all the collaboration and support it provides, will give a new or growing business a fantastic boost in those vital stages.”
Businesses setting their sights on the comprehensive support bundle are being invited to upload a two minute video pitch to Accelerate Places’ YouTube channel. Following the closing date on 25 September, five shortlisted companies will be chosen to present their ideas in person at the pitch night on 3 October.
