FIRST PUBLISHED

Protesters from Extinction Rebellion block the roundabout on London Road as part of worldwide action by the climate group.

The campaigners blocked the road at the pedestrian lights at 8 am today – waiting for about 10 minutes before letting traffic continue. Many driver ‘honked in support’ as members of the protest group spoke to them in their cars to explain why they were carrying out the action.

The group is calling on the UK government to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2025 and establish a citizens’ assembly to come up with an emergency plan of action to tackle climate breakdown.

The group plan similar disruption in Nottingham for tomorrow’s rush hour at a location yet to be revealed.
