A couple with a disabled daughter have benefitted from the Lifetime Homes features at David Wilson Homes’ development Hollygate Park in Cotgrave.

Andy and Emma Bentley were looking to move closer to their family when they came across the Hollygate Lane development and were delighted to find out the property would easily accommodate their middle child Lola, 9, who is severely disabled and uses a wheelchair.

The homes at the development are all built to meet the criteria of Lifetime Homes, which means they have been designed to cater for residents throughout different milestones in their lives, as they have been uniquely planned to last homeowners a lifetime.

The downstairs bathroom is wheelchair accessible and can easily be adapted into a wet room, meaning Lola can live on the ground floor of the home, and there are already sockets in place by the staircase if the family decide to put a stair lift in.

The home has larger doorways meaning it is easier to get a wheelchair in and out of the house and the level access paths leading into the home also helps to make it a smooth transition for Lola.

Andy said: “When we chose the home we knew that we would have to plan for Lola’s disability and be prepared if her condition was to deteriorate.

“The Lifetime Homes features are massively helpful to us because we’re aware of how expensive making adaptions to your home can be and this is something we needed to consider.

“Lola is already benefitting from the larger doorways which allow her to get in and out of the home and the downstairs bathroom which makes it much easier for everyone as she doesn’t have to go upstairs.

“One of the main reasons we chose Hollygate Park was because of the fantastic location next to the country park and the fact that there is great schooling in the area, which was a big thing for us to consider when moving home for our other daughters Bibi, 10 and Juno, 7.”

The family downsized from a larger four bedroom home to their current home as they wanted something that was easier to maintain and more energy efficient.

They were also attracted to buying a new build property because it needed no DIY work doing to it and it was ready to move into straight away.
