Fertility nurse shaves head to support Nottingham Hospitals colleague

Lorraine Peabody and Alison Haddon are friends who have worked together for 8 years. Lorraine is a Deputy Fertility Sister and Alison is the administrator of the Fertility Unit; they adore each other.

“Ali is the kind of person who would do anything for anybody and I wanted to show her support in any way I can, even if it is something as small as a haircut!

“Ali is the best person you could hope to know, everybody that knows her adores her.”

Colleagues joined Lorraine and Alison in the Fertility Unit this morning and took it in turns to cut and shave Lorraine’s hair.

Alison had breast cancer 7 years ago but in November, she started getting dizzy and in January, doctors found a brain tumour, which is secondary breast cancer. Alison thinks Lorraine is very brave for having her hair cut off.

“I haven’t got a choice but she has. Lorraine cutting her hair off makes me feel very humble. The Fertility Unit are a lovely team to work with and I don’t feel I warrant their praise.”

People that used to work with Alison came into the unit to support the event, and Lorraine’s family watched on FaceTime from the QMC car park.

As well as cutting her hair, Lorraine is also raising money for Breast Cancer UK and hoping to donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust.

Lorraine originally wanted to raise £100 for charity; she has raised more than £1000 so far. Click here for Lorraine’s JustGiving page.
