Film for Safe Pregnancy for Women with Epilepsy Commended at International Conference

A short film produced by NUH that aims to help women with epilepsy to plan a safe pregnancy has been commended an international conference.

Titled ‘yes you can!’, the film was produced by epilepsy specialists from our Department of Neurology, and was presented this month at the 12th European Congress on Epileptology – an event held every two years by the International League Against Epilepsy.

One of the NUH team involved was Epilepsy Nurse Specialist Angie Jones. She said: “We decided to produce the film as part of our work to empower women with epilepsy who want to plan a family – because some epilepsy medications can present risks during pregnancy.

“The film was funded by the NUH Charity, and features five women who have all been supported through our service. We shared it at the conference as a poster presentation. It received a great response, and we were really pleased to receive a first class rosette commending it as a first class piece of work.

Alongside Angie, NUH clinicians involved in creating the 15-minute film were Consultant Obstetrician Dr Suzanne Wallace, Consultant Neurologist Dr Michael O’Donoghue, and Epilepsy Nurse Specialist Catie Picton.
