Fire at The Cornerhouse Nottingham averted by sprinkler system

Firefighters from London Road and Stockhill were called to a fire at a business in The Cornerhouse at 8:45 pm on Sunday 8 August.

A fire had started accidentally through a fault in the extraction unit.

The sprinkler system deployed and immediately extinguished the fire before firefighters had arrived on scene.

No one was injured or needed to be evacuated due the quick reaction of the sprinkler system which prevented a much larger and more serious incident.

David Stevenson, Group Manager for Protection, said: “This incident shows how effective sprinkler systems can be in quickly stopping the spread of fire to save property and lives.

“Had sprinklers not been installed, this fire could have easily spread endangering the business itself and others within The Cornerhouse.

“We encourage all businesses to regularly review their fire safety measures and to contact our Fire Protection team if they have any concerns.”
