Updated: Fire service statement after Tap & Run pub damaged by fire – road reopens

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has released an update on the incident.

Notts Fire updated at 1 pm:

‘Update on Main Road, Upper Broughton. The fire is completely out but we’ll be back throughout the day to make sure it stays that way Believed to be an accidental fire Main Road is open Thanks to all in the local area for your patience and understanding.’

The pub is owned by Nottinghamshire and England cricketer Stuart Broad.

The roof and first floor of the pub – which is also owned by former cricketer Harry Gurney have been damaged.

Jonathan Wilson from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue, said:

“We were mobilised to this building fire and we had eight appliances here and an aerial ladder platform.

“Swift action by the crews has contained the fire to the building but the building is quite badly damaged.

“We are working to dampen it down and will probably be here doing that for the next couple of hours at least. There was not believed to be anybody inside the building and the fire was contained to the building itself. Crews from Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire together have been working to deal with it.

“We are going to concentrate on putting the fire out – we are having a structural engineer have a look at the building as well to see if it is structurally safe, then there will be an investigation.”

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said at 4:23 am:

‘We currently have 8 fire engines at an incident on Main Road, Upper Broughton.

‘We ask you to please avoid the area if possible and for local residents to keep their doors and windows closed if affected by the smoke.’

‘Eight fire engines from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and Notts Fire  along with an aerial ladder platform, water carrier and command support vehicle are in attendance at the fire on Main road, Upper Broughton,’

In an update at 6:20 am:

‘Some crews have been released from the incident on Main Road, Upper Broughton however we will likely remain on scene for a number of hours to come.’

AA Roadwatch reports:

‘Road closed due to building fire on A606 Melton Road both ways between Hickling Lane and Bottom Green.’
