Arnold Red Watch and a vintage fire engine joined St Albans Parish Council’s Annual Charitable Santa Ride.
At the last minute, the council’s mobile Santa Sleigh became unavailable, leaving Santa in a difficult position. Arnold crews, along with the owner of a retro fire engine, John Todd, stepped in to provide a suitable sleigh for the evening.
Presents were distributed by Santa and his elves to local children, and various charity collections were held. Crews collected donations for The Fire Fighters Charity.
Craig Cooper, District Prevention Officer at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said “it is fantastic that John, supported by Arnold Red Watch, was able to step in with only one week’s notice and help Cllr Ellis continue with her plan to spread some Christmas joy to the residents and their children.
“The event was a huge success and a brilliant opportunity to continue to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity whilst also providing Fire Safety literature to Nottinghamshire residents which will help keep them and their families safe during the festive season.”
Andrew Turley, Crew Manager at Arnold Fire Station, said “being given this opportunity to get involved with such an amazing event at an amazing time of year is not only good for the Service but also the community. The fact that we are able to go and see the impact that this will have on families – I am proud to have been involved.”
Councillor for Bestwood St Albans, Rachael Ellis, said “Thank you for helping us make Santa’s Tour happen. The vintage fire engine is a little gem!
“We are so pleased to have been able to bring this moment of Christmas joy to our Community and to have been able to distribute the gifts to the children… I have to say that the effect was magnificent.”
