FIRE UPDATE: Crews remain at scene as investigation begins

A fire at a tyre site has broken out on Wigwam Lane in Hucknall, residents are asked to keep windows and doors closed.

Update 7 am 15 November 

Two crews remain at the fire on Wigwam Ln, Hucknall to dampen down. Fire investigation is due to continue later today.

17:00 | Update | Crews from Hucknall Stockhill Arnold Ilkeston Newark Mansfield Ashfield Blidworth ClayCross Belper Collingham Tuxford and Edwinstowe remain on scene. We are likely to remain on-site for some time. Please continue to keep doors and windows closed.

Updates: 4 pm Approximately 70 firefighters continue to tackle a large fire on Wigwam Ln, Hucknall. Please avoid the area if you can and we advise local residents to keep their doors and windows closed.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said:

‘We are currently in attendance at a fire on Wigwam Ln, Hucknall. The fire is causing large quantities of smoke and we advise local residents to keep their doors and windows closed.

‘Currently in attendance are crews from Hucknall, Stockhill, Arnold, Ilkeston and Newark.

Crews from Hucknall, Stockhill, Arnold, Ilkeston, Newark, Ashfield, Blidworth along with command support from Mansfield, a water carrier from Clay Cross and welfare unit from Belper have all been mobilised to the incident on Wigwam Ln Hucknall.’

Councillor Dave Shaw said: “The fire service and police are on site and I’ll like to assure residents that they are not in any danger. There have been several huge explosions which has been really intense.

“I’ve been assisting directing traffic away from the scene and I’d ask residents to avoid the area until the situation is under control.

“Ashfield District Council have despatched their community protection team to assist the emergency services and I would ask residents not to panic.”

Nottinghamshire Police said:

‘Emergency services are currently at the scene of a large fire at an industrial site in Wigwam Lane, Hucknall.

‘The blaze is generating large amounts of smoke and local residents are being advised to keep their doors and windows shut.

‘Local road closures area also in place as our colleagues at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue service deal with the incident.’
