The incident happened on Thursday 2 September.
Police said:
‘Newark Neighbourhood Policing Team have assisted Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and RSPCA officers in rescuing a swan from the River Trent, in Newark town centre.
‘The swan was spotted by a keen-eyed member of the public and had ingested a hook and fishing line, likely left behind by a careless angler.
‘Fortunately, the hook and line were removed and the swan was safely reunited with its offspring and released back to the river.’
