Firefighters issue warning after tumble dryer fire damages home

Firefighters have issued a safety warning after a residential fire believed to have been caused by a tumble dryer.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said both appliances from Ashfield Fire Station attended the property earlier today ( 11 June ) after a fire broke out inside the home.

Images shared by the service show significant smoke and heat damage caused to the property. The fire service said the occupier had allowed the photographs to be published as a warning to others.

Following the incident, firefighters urged people not to leave tumble dryers, washing machines, or e-bike and e-scooter batteries running or charging while they are asleep or away from home.

The service also strongly recommended that households have at least one working smoke alarm on every level of their property and test them regularly.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said a few simple precautions could help prevent a devastating fire and protect lives.

The warning comes amid continuing concern nationally about fires involving domestic appliances and rechargeable batteries, particularly where devices are left unattended for long periods or charged overnight.

Householders are advised to follow manufacturers’ instructions, avoid overloading sockets, clean tumble dryer filters regularly, and ensure appliances are in good working order.
