Firefighters rescue horse trapped in canal

Fire crews and water rescue teams rescued Brandy the horse after he became trapped in Ashby Canal.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said:

‘On Sunday, we came to the aid of a horse named Brandy, who had fallen into Ashby Canal.

‘Our crew from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service Market Bosworth, along with our water rescue team, used an inflatable rescue path and slide sheets to help him out of the water with the assistance of farm machinery, by which time poor Brandy was exhausted.

‘Eventually, he got back on his hooves and was helped home to his nearby stable, where he was warmed by his owners and cared for by a local vet. We understand he is recovering well from his ordeal.
